Feng Shui – friend or faux?
More often than not, the questions or comments addressed to me regarding Feng Shui, are about ‘energy’. People often ask; ‘is there good energy in my home”? “What do you think of the energy in my office”. “My bedroom has bad energy, will a pink candle bring me luck in my relationships”? “I put an aquarium on the north of my office and still, no business luck”! I do not blame you, with an overflow of information out there, how can you not get confused! Here is a simple, albeit oversimplified explanation, for easy understanding, of what Feng Shui is and how it will practically serve your respective needs.
A sturdy table needs four legs. The Feng Shui practice has four support beams; 1) time, 2) direction, 3) surrounding environment and 4) human specifications.
A qualified practitioner must determine all four, along with the structural analysis, to give a conclusive report.
- The time the property was built, is of utmost importance, as this will show the practitioner all the information needed, to locate any and all vulnerabilities.
- The direction in which a building faces and has its back to, is the second most important indication of vulnerability.
- The surrounding environment must be properly assessed, as common sense also dictates.
- Last but not least, the specifications regarding the overall identity of the humans that occupy the specific space is most crucial. Each person’s print is unique and should be treated as such, by a professional Feng Shui consultant.
A proper Feng Shui study is an exterior and interior space and time study. Its purpose is to better determine the quality or lack off, of a structure and its surrounding environment and offer specific, established solutions. But the focus of such a study is not the building; rather the people in it. This is the true desire of a conscientious practitioner. To offer to you the same thing you desire, not just for yourself, but your family as well; a healthy, safe, ergonomically sound environment, in which you can all reach your maximum potential.
Do not worry, the fun part of choosing the right colors, materials and decor is still there! It is just important to understand that it ought to derive from a legitimate, professional study.
