Goddess Athena – Αθηνά & International Women’s Day
Although I would prefer, in 2022, to celebrate Women’s’ Day, to commemorate all the women and men, that have dedicated or even given their lives for a fair, gender unbiased treatment, it seems we are, yet again, in dire straights, regarding equal treatment to females. The rise in domestic abuse during the lock downs, the return of
‘the dark ages’ for women in Afghanistan, abusive behavior against those who are and feel (trans genders) female and numerous such cases around our globe, seem to have set us backwards instead of forwards. This fight for equality, exists since antiquity, and even in an enlightened ancient Greece, the laws and mentality, didn’t usually favor the women. Still, there were many fierce female fighters back then, in groups (the Amazons) or individuals; in this article, I choose to focus on Goddess Athina, for two reasons: a) you (gender unrelated!) are a Goddess, no matter what anyone else says. b) even an Olympian Goddess, had to outsmart her male counterpart and prove herself, against a male dominated Pantheon, on Mount Olympus! She did succeed, by the way. How? Here’s how:
Athens, the capital of Hellas (Greece), was named after the Goddess of wisdom Athena, after she defeated Poseidon (Neptune), the nebulous God of the seas. Her sacred animal is the wise Owl and her trademark the olive tree. A frustrated Poseidon, pierced the sacred rock of Acropolis with his Trident and a salt water lake was created, a promise of water bringing abundance. Athena, wise and strategic, made an olive tree emerge, full of vibrant olives, a promise to always nourish. Her nurturing and strategic approach rightfully won. The remaining ten Gods of Olympus voted for Athena and her olive tree, believed to be the first of the thousands that grace the entire country since. “Healthy mind through healthy body” declared the ancients Greeks; the olive trees not only nurtured the ancients but secured a strong income through trade. They still do, to this day. Athena was a woman and I dedicate International Women’s Day to all the ladies out there, that fight the good fight not just for women but the entire planet and all living entities. Athena was also a great warrior, strategic planer, intuitive, and also ruled over activism and politics. Her astrological embodiment, the asteroid Athena, is during March 2022, in fiery, dynamic and careless Aries. What does this mean and how can this influence your endeavors?
“Slow down if you want to reach your finish line.”

If you wish to win the war, not just the battle, strategic planning and thinking are just as important, if not more, than the fight itself. “Slow down if you want to reach your finish line.” Remember: part of Athena’s success, came from being strategic but her true drive was altruistic; thus she offered a long term, nurturing solution. Cunning execution of plans, may serve your purpose short term but will not win you the war. You need to keep the balance between your wants and the collective benefit.
People that have been fighting the good fight throughout history, are not always given credit for the work they do, and as history has shown, this occurs more often than not, to women. Instead of numerous examples, I lay this upon you; our planet has seen (and unfortunately continues to), its fair share of conflict, suffering, pain and starvation. These are the off-springs of greed; and within greed lies the biggest lie, that we have all bought into, at one point or another: that greed is the only means to an end. How short-sighted. Like Athena, we can be clever in our approach, productive and through our endeavors, ensure prosperity and growth for all. Will everyone prosper the same? No, and that is o.k., because we all have different skills, needs and desires: but everyone will have a fair chance. Females included.
Hopefully in the
near future,
there
will be no need
to celebrate
Women’s
one Day.
