This January marks the beginning of a New, desperately awaited by many, Year. Before it has a chance to come into existence, we have already unloaded upon it, all our expectations, fears and desires, that have surfaced during 2020, the year of Covid-19. After all the soul searching, discovering the ‘new me’ and appreciating the small things in life, what exactly do we hope the new year will be? Probably exactly what we make it! After the vaccinations, the media frenzy cool down and return to ‘normal’, two paths seem to clear; one with emotional connection to our surrounding environment, the entire planet that is and one without. What path do you choose in 2021?

Mars squares Saturn January 11-13. Dictatorship or Anarchy? Neither.

The path from 2020 to 2021; A few days before the expiration of 2020, two out of three major planets, Jupiter (expansion- travel) and Saturn (limits-foundations) moved into their compatible, freedom loving Aquarius. Pluto (transformation) enters Aquarius in March 2023, a year that marks the end of one era (restrictive and oppressive globalization, or Pluto in Capricorn 2008-2023) for a more humane oriented era, the infamous Age of Aquarius (more on this subject on the Post of June 07, 2020).

Can our expectation to have a more prosperous Year, be wishful thinking? Sensibility is key, in order to secure a year of positive transition.

Aspects and dates for January 2021.

Going from December to January is always important as it marks the transition into a New Year. On December 30th, Venus conjunct the South Node, squared Neptune and the year ended with a Full Moon i Cancer, opposing Pluto on the 31st, New Year’s Eve. The need to leave behind old doctrines, that no longer serve what is fair on a personal level and the common good, is more apparent than ever; as is the need to be open emotionally but not emotionally dependent, throughout 2021. The centrifugal motion that has held the entire planet captive from June 27 ends on January 6, as Mars, planet of aggression and drive, leaves its offspring, the fiery Aries. During January 7 to March 4, we need to mind our step. Whether this regards how we do our job, make decisions, carry conversations or communicate our needs. Slow but steady is the order of each day. This can be an opportune time to legally settle pending investment, inheritance, property and overall finances. It is also a good time to work on self esteem issues and stand on our own two feet. On January 1st, Mercury sextiles Neptune. Combining practicality with creativity, can set the foundation for creative projects in media, art or advertising, but not only. Mercury conjuncts Pluto on the 5th. Venus and Mars are well aspected in fiery Sagittarius and Aries until the 6th. Despite the obvious difficulties, generosity and a thirst for life can permeate our endeavors. We may not be yet in a position to see our plans through, but there is no reason why we can not prepare, consult specialists, upgrade our knowledge, perhaps with online seminars. On January 7 Mars enters practical, enduring and slow paced Taurus, until March 4. Focus shifts on putting our tangible affairs in order. This can be a productive period if we are sensible, control our temper, be firm but not rigid (innovative yet erratic Uranus is in Taurus and loosing control can cause irreversible damage). Mars in Taurus also enhances sensuality and love for beauty, art and such professions can benefit from a technological upgrade. Look out for throat infections, if you are sensitive here. On January 10-13 we have a rather interesting interplay of planetary aspects. In a nutshell, I would say we need to use methods proven to be reliable long term but add innovation and open horizons to our mentality. Our relationship can prosper if we stay warm, caring and supportive. Keeping our emotional connection to our surrounding environment is very important, if we are to succeed in our endeavors, both personally and collectively. Rage and erratic behavior can set our plans back, a condition apparent January 11-13, as Mars squares Saturn and a New Moon in Capricorn is squeezed in on the 13th. (read below*). Although Mercury enters free thinking and innovative Aquarius on the 9th, we need common sense, along with an open mind, to prevail, and avoid hyperbole that can lead to destructive behavior and subsequent consequences (Mercury squares Uranus 11-12th but luckily at the same time it conjuncts expansive Jupiter). Stay emotionally connected, be fair and just. On the flip side, Mercury conjuncts Saturn on the 10th, and the better characteristics of Aquarius (out of the box thinking, high collective consciousness) can stand out and adhere. On the same day, Venus (female, receptive archetype) trines Mars (male, penetrating archetype). Both in earth signs, can really help us ground all related partnership matters; again, emphasis and success lies in maintaining emotional connection. Venus also trines Uranus on the 14th, so we can create and experience memorable personal moments. A new relationship may not last but it will be fun while it does! If you are cheating in a partnership, you will get exposed, probably through technology (more so if you are a fixed sign-Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius- or have points to your chart here). On the day, the Sun conjuncts Pluto. Intuition is heightened and so is a need to look behind the ‘curtain’ and discover true motives, others and our own.

There is a New Moon* at 23 degrees 13′ Capricorn on January 13, that can really be a beacon for new beginnings, preferably after Uranus turns direct, on the 15th (depending on your birth chart of course). The New Moon affects us all but mostly the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) or people with points to your chart here. The key for success here is to harness all the positive Capricorn traits; healthy ambition, prudence, practicality, discipline and its lesser known characteristics of humor and artistic flair. Needless to say, that rigidity, fatalism, self righteousness and harshness, will not do. If all you share with the Capricorn energy is greed, sure you can win now but how your story ends remains to be seen. Christmas has passed but Charles Dickens’s story ‘Scrooge’, is more applicable than ever. The Sun enters Aquarius on January 19 and illuminates both Saturn and Jupiter in the same sign. The need to look at our lives on this planet for what they are, short, beautiful and interconnected, is stronger than ever. Mars conjuncts Uranus on the 20/21st. This can be a great day for science, inventions, original thinking for some, a great day for unconventional relationships and freedom of expression for others or a day with increase in fanaticism, drug use or addictive behavior. There is a Full Moon at 9 degrees 6′ in Leo on January 28. It affects us all, mostly the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius or if you have points to your chart here). This Moon focuses on the self more so than the whole; in principle, it opposes everything that the abundant Aquarius energy (Sun, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter) stands for. On the other hand, the positive Leo traits, emotional and physical warmth, generosity, creativity, love for children and all creative aspects of life, can off-set some of the difficult traits in an Aquarius filled sky, like aloofness, emotional detachment, perversity and erratic behavior. Most of us have been under severe stress for a few months now and the need to express those pent up emotions, will emerge during this Full Moon. Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, squares this Moon from its position at 6 degrees Taurus. Translation? Combine generosity, love for humanity and stability. Shake well. Sounds like a recipe for success. Delicious! Combine misplaced pride, coldness and stubbornness. Shake well. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Yikes! Apply your excess energy to a worthy cause. Thanks to our internet connection, we can make a difference from the comfort of our home. Keeping the economy alive is necessary but shopping online is not the only activity to participate in. Plus, there will be plenty of communication mishaps and ‘faux pas’ after January 31st, when Mercury turns Rx-retrograde. Better draw these contracts, upgrade your devices and have the car checked, before.
