As world events unfold during February, try to stay informed regarding severe weather changes worldwide, to what extent we are responsible for this and how they affect our health, daily lives, even transportation. Mercury, when negatively aspected and in retrograde, intensifies such conditions. Remember, there is always a silver lining; Who knows, if your flight is overbooked. you could gain a free ticket or other prize! Or perhaps your recently serviced car breaks down again, but saves you from being stuck in a bad traffic jam. * A quick fix to manage possible upheavals? Count to three. Breathe. Balance your mental and physical elements, just like you would if you were, for example, making earth-ware. You would use the right amount of water and clay to shape, and fire to bake it. Change and transformation remain key words this month as well. Last but not least, look out for large pharmaceuticals (Neptune aspects/traits) going after smaller ones, including your friendly neighborhood pharmacist.

Before i go into details regarding our solar system’s planetary interactions and how they relate to us, let me very briefly introduce our planets in order of distance from the sun, closest to furthest, to the newcomers who are curious enough to visit but really have no clue about astrology and zodiac signs.

• Sun: center of our galaxy, associated with Leo, sign of creative force-Helios in ancient Greece, the god of light.
• Mercury: nearest to the sun and fastest moving, associated with Gemini and Virgo, signs of communication-Hermes in ancient Greece, messenger for the gods.
• Venus: next in line and second brightest star on our sky, associated with Taurus and Libra, signs of strength and beauty-Aphrodite in ancient Greece, goddess of love.
• Earth: following suit, the planet of life growth, associated only by element (earth) with Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn- Gaia in ancient Greece, the primal mother earth goddess.
• Moon: the earth’s only natural satellite, associated with the sign of Cancer, sign of nurture- Artemis goddess of hunting and a healer of women.
• Mars: the red planet, associated with Aries, sign of assertion and drive –Aris in ancient Greece, god of war.
• Jupiter: the largest planet of our system radiates double the light it receives from the sun, associated with Sagittarius, sign of expansion and illumination- Zeus, in ancient Greece the god of gods.
• Saturn: next the ringed majestic planet of order, associated with Capricorn, sign of duty and dependability-in ancient Greece the god Pan, protector of woodlands and shepherds.
• Uranus: the gas giant, associated with Aquarius, the sign of innovation- Aquarius or beautiful Ganymede, the son of Trojan king Tros, was taken to Mount Olympus by Zeus to act as cup-carrier to the gods.
• Neptune: a striking blue giant, associated with Pisces, the sign of healing and illusion- in ancient Greece representing the fish into which Aphrodite and her son Eros transformed
• Pluto: the yellow dwarf planet or huge asteroid, associated with Scorpio, the intense truth-seeker- he was called on earth by Goddess Artemis to kill Orion who wanted to destroy all animals.

You may notice occasionally astrological dates can seem to be one (1) day off, (for example a planet enters a sign on the 12/13). This occurs because calculations are based on Tropical Midnight Ephemeris, Time Zone EDT (04 west). Add or subtract hours, based on your Time Zone.

In a nutshell, keep the proportions of your feelings (water), the context (earth) and how you manifest them (fire), balanced. This way, no amount of retrogrades or planetary shifts can affect you negatively or stir you off course for long.

Astro tip for all: with so many planets in Pisces, this should be a less cerebral month, more focused on love, healing, emotional and spiritual connections. February, the Sun is for the most part in Aquarius, so are the asteroids Dimitra (Ceres), nurture and Eros (Cupid), love.There is an undercurrent rehearsal for the main event. What event? The great Saturn and Jupiter conjunction on December 21, 2020 in Aquarius. This marks the long awaited Age of Aquarius! This year do what you can to resolve old issues. The New Moon in brainy Aquarius, that occurred on January 24th, spills into February and brings along love for innovative ideas, projects, love for the collective and need for freedom. Mercury leaves progressive Aquarius for sensitive Pisces on February 3/4th.

The month begins with a passionate Pluto* sextile Venus in dreamy and romantic Pisces also on the 3rd. On the same day Saturn* forms a sextile with Venus, securing not just the passion in a relationship, old or new, but its longevity as well. If you are serious about your relationship, read on, as maintaining the balance between dream and reality, is the key during February. Venus is also about beauty and money. Update your look and have those finance related conversations, draw related plans or in some cases agreements. The tricky part? You may have guessed it, Mercury in Pisces turns retrograde. Officially this occurs on the 17th. It actually stations at 12 degrees Pisces on February 14 (yes, Valentine’s Day) until February 20th. For some, this could be the calm before the storm. Others may begin to experience the Mercury Rx before its official debut. What do we always do before the retrograde? Whether we travel or not, we protect important documents like id’s, passports, contracts or any like papers. Back up your system and then back up the back up! All important appliances should be plugged in surge protectors. Keep your coffee away from your typing board. Aquarius and its ruler Uranus*, is not only about technology. It is connected to metal and electricity and our nervous system. If you handle any related light or heavy equipment, follow safety regulations like a novice. Last but not least, what else happens during a Mercury Rx? Events unfold fast and stagnant plans or ideas take off! Mercury in watery Pisces sextiles earthy Uranus in Taurus February 5th. Like mentioned above, balance water and earth and reap the benefits, yes benefits, of the upcoming retrograde. Ideas (Neptune*, water) take shape (Taurus, earth) through innovation (Uranus). Mercury is also connected to health. This is an opportune time to visit a specialist regarding your nervous system.

February 9th, there is a Full Moon on 20 degrees Leo, which trines Mars in Sagittarius. Happy go lucky meets creative. This Full Moon affects directly the Fixed sings (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio), with birthdays 10-11-12 August/February/May and November. Or charts with points on these degrees. The Sun at 19 degrees 53’/20 degrees Aquarius chimes in from across the sky and it is a lift off! This is a great time to let go of the past and literally start fresh and start strong. Exchange ideas, do research, seek advanced methods, no matter what your interests/studies/profession is. Teachers and individuals or institutions that shape the education system, can join forces and come up with innovative and creative methods in order to upgrade it. Needless to say, as positive and inviting this exuberant energy can be, too much fire can scorch and destroy. Let us re-cup*; keep emotions, structure and assertive energy in check. Venus enters passionate, daring Aries on the 8/9th. On Valentine’s Day, the 14th, Venus squares the North Node in 7 degrees Cancer. What a day to be seduced by love! The North Node is also about the evolution of our inherited DNA or this life’s reincarnation, depending on your belief system. Either way, a love affair on the day, can show us if we fall in love with love or the actual person, through a challenging acquaintance/relationship. Same applies for money connections. The Moon is in Scorpio, so emotions run deep. If you are on a first date with an acquaintance through the internet, be safety conscious.

Mars enters Capricorn on the 16th. You hit the ground running, with focus and determination. As mentioned before, the Mercury retrograde officially begins on the very next day, on the 17th. Remember, Saturn*, Pluto* and Jupiter* are also in Capricorn. Take your life and responsibilities seriously and despite the communication upheaval, you can get things done. This gathering of planets in Capricorn (formed with Mars conjunctions in March) is a welcomed sobering energy to counter-balance the Pisces tendency towards escapism. This unfortunately can be pursued not just through imagination, but drugs, alcohol and overall negative addictive behavior. A condition enhanced by the Suns as it enters Pisces on the 18/19. Giving back to your community or favorite charity, can be a positive outlet indeed. The Sun in Pisces sextiles on the 22nd the Mars-Uranus (Capricorn-Taurus) trine. Imagination nurtures structure. A New Moon occurs February 23, on 4 degrees Pisces. It mostly affects people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 8 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces). It usually refers to new beginnings. However, with the retrograde motion at play, it may be more prudent to apply your imagination through visualization, on already tested projects. It is creative, with great potential to solidify dreams or plans due to the harmonious aspects to Mars, the Nodes, and Uranus. For example, an idea from 2012 (Neptune in Pisces), that is finally taking shape, becoming a movie, theater play or concert. Or a new medical unit, that has been on the works for almost a decade. Note; with Neptune and Mercury (the latter also related to health) in Pisces, all issues related to the sea, health of marine life, safety on board ships, challenges and scandals related to shipping/oil/pharmaceutical companies, are imminent. February 25/26 the Sun conjuncts Mercury at 6-7 degrees Pisces, enhancing pre-existing foggy conditions. Neptune is 10 degrees apart (17 degrees Pisces), but does exercise some influence. Mercury does conjunct Uranus on the 29th, last day of the month. Mental outbursts should only be channeled creatively. Try not to take everything to heart. An unclear mind is a bad advisor and can lead to self-righteousness.
